The Well of Spirits – a/k/a Well of Souls - a/k/a - Hell
The Well of Spirits is a cave under the Dome of the Rock, adjacent to where King Solomon's Temple was located, where it is believed Solomon worshipped Satan and conjured up demons. 3 Kings 11:5, “But Solomon worshipped Astarthe the goddess of the Sidonians, and Moloch the idol of the Ammonites.”
Medieval Islamic legend says that the Well of Souls under the floor of this cave is the place the spirits of the dead can be heard awaiting Judgment.
Emperor Constantine VII wrote to his son of the religion of Islam: “And they pray, moreover, to the star of Aphrodite, which they call Koubar, and in their supplication cry out: ‘Alla wa Koubar,’ that is, ‘God and Aphrodite.’ For they call God ‘Alla,’ and ‘wa’ they use for the conjunction ‘and,’ and they call the star ‘Koubar,’ and so they say ‘Alla wa Koubar.’…He (Oumar) demanded the temple of the Jews that Solomon built, to make it the place of worship of his blasphemy. And it is so to this day,” pp 79-83. [Constantine Porphyrogenitus De Administrando Imperio, Greek Text Ed. Gy. Moravcsik; Eng. Trans. R.J.H. Jenkins; Dumbarton Oaks, Trustees for Harvard Univ., 2008]
In Jerusalem this cave is known to be the entrance of “another region” of the universe.
It has also been called: Pit of Souls, Cave of Spirits, and Well of Spirits.
There is a depression in the floor indicating a chamber beneath the floor. Archaeologists have been forbidden to explore the site.
In 1871, Lady Burton, wife of explorer Sir Richard Francis Burton, as a tourist wrote of the cave: “The cave…the cistern for the blood which ran off through the Well of Souls into the Valley of Hinnom.”
The Valley of Hinnom, a/k/a, Valley of Gehenna, is known as the destination of the souls of the wicked. The wicked are apostate Israelites and followers of Ba’als and Chanaanite gods, including Moloch, who sacrificed children by fire. Gehenna was cursed. In Jer. 7:31-34, God said, “And they have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Ennom, to burn their sons, and their daughters in the fire: which I commanded not, nor thought on in my heart. Therefore behold the days shall come, saith the Lord, and it shall no more be called Topheth, nor the valley of the son of Ennom: but the valley of slaughter: and they shall bury in Topheth, because there is no place…and I will cause to cease out of the cities of Juda, and out of the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride: for the land shall be desolate.”
